#televue40: Our Scopes

At the beginning of 2017, in honor of Tele Vue’s 40th year, we asked you to tag your social media images taken with or taken of Tele Vue equipment with the hashtag #televue40. You did so and there are too many images to highlight them all, but we’ll bring you a few at a time though these blog posts.

People are rightfully proud of the heirloom quality build and performance of our scopes. This post looks at the various images of Tele Vue scopes posted on social media feeds this year.


A recent favorite of ours was this painting of a Tele Vue TV-85 by Instagram user @h.chiharandy.

An aspiring solar scientist (below) employs a filtered Tele Vue TV-NP101is at the “Hopservatory” (Instagram @hopservatory) in Bend, OR.

Between the Tele Vue and the Paramount they’ve somehow managed to squeeze in a 16” reflecting scope! . ☀Billed as the world’s first “Hopservatory” it is a project of the non-profit Worthy Garden Club in partnership with the non-profit Oregon Observatory at Sunriver. It is separate entity from the Worthy Brewing company 50-ft below. All these “Worthy” projects are the brainchild of local businessman Roger Worthington. . ☀We’re told that NP101is “has been awesome! Been getting stellar views and images out of it” through their collection of Tele Vue eyepieces: Nagler 12mm, 17mm, 22mm & 31mm plus a Panoptic 27mm. Outfitted with a solar filter, the NP101is is featured for their daylight solar viewing program. . ☀While the eclipse will not quite be total (99.6%) in Bend, and the observatory will be closed for the event, it is only an hour away from the center line of totality. So there should be a good group of people passing by the area in the days leading up to it. The scope is also used at night (see young lunar-scientist below). The long eye-relief of the 17mm Nagler eyepiece makes it easy for anyone — young, old, glasses — to take in the wide-field view.


Jeff Husted’s Tele Vue TV-NP127is setup in the Panamint Valley just outside of Death Valley National Park.


Tele Vue TV-85 is appropriately juxtaposed with the Omega Speedmaster. It was a Speedmaster that was worn for America’s first “space walk” and “moon walk”. Tele Vue’s very existence is based on technology developed by our CEO and founder Al Nagler for the space program.


The Great American Eclipse dominated astronomical news this year. Below is Tele Vue President David Nagler with his Tele Vue TV-60 eclipse setup.

Dave Nagler hard at work playing with his “grab with one hand” eclipse chasing setup. It features the Tele Vue-60 APO telescope (http://bit.ly/TVOIGTV60Full), with terrific Quark Hα system by Daystar, on a Tele-Pod mount. He says it takes the Quark longer to heat up (5-minutes) than to assemble the whole system! Between the Tele-Pod head and Sol Searcher “it’s so natural to just swing the Tele-Pod head around and get the Sun in the field even with 60x in the scope. It takes about 3-seconds with the Sol-Searcher,” says Dave. :: The visual train is as follows: Tele Vue 2.5x PowerMate™ in the diagonal brings the effective telescope focal length to 900mm — without inducing aberrations or pushing out the exit pupil like a simple Barlow would. Solar filtering is done with a DayStar Instruments QUARK Hα filter on top of the 2.5x PowerMate™.
