1) Types of Data Storage

a) Data Stored on Your Devices

Data stored on your web browsing device can take the form of “cookies”, “localStorage”, and “sessionStorage”. All these technologies tell your web browser to place small amounts of retrievable data on your device. The choice of which type of data storage technology to use depends on the length of time the data will be stored and the capability of the web browser.

Cookies are typically deleted when you close your browser, or on their specified expiry date. SessionStorage files are automatically deleted when you close your browser. LocalStorage files are deleted when the website that stored them deletes them.  You can also delete cookies and other storage from your browser at any time you like by visiting your web browser settings.

b) Data Stored on Remote Computers

Most website servers (remote computers) create a detailed server log of browser generated information, which may in some cases constitute personal data. Server logs include but are not limited to: your internet protocol (IP) address (can be used to identify your internet service provider and geographic location), date/time, pages visited, browser type, operating system, and the webpage that you arrived from if it had a link to our site.

2) Information Tele Vue Directly Gathers from You

a) Email

If you email Tele Vue, unless you state otherwise, we will use your email address only for the purpose of responding to you, and for no other purpose. We may keep a record of this email indefinably for future reference.

b) Website Customization Data

None of the data described in this section personally identifies you.

Required Data

You can’t opt out of having the following data stored.

In order for the website to operate correctly, long-term stored data remembers your preferred website layout (such as mobile or full site), the last website menu selection, and that you accepted the privacy policy.

Our webs server automatically places a “session” cookie on your device. It contains an encrypted code to uniquely identify you to the webserver. It can optionally contain “session variables” that customize your website experience. Each time your device makes a request to the web server (click on another of our pages for example) the cookie, if found, is sent to the server. If no cookie is found then a new one is created. This cookie expires a short while after your last interaction with the website – usually 20-minutes.

Optional Data

The Eyepiece Calculator page on the website has options to store data runs for later retrieval. This data includes your telescope specifications, eyepiece preferences, and the name you’ve assigned to the run. You can avoid having this information stored on your device by not saving Eyepiece Calculator runs. There is also a delete button on that page that becomes visible if saved runs are detected. You can use that button to delete all data runs from storage.

c) Server Log Data

We use server logs for the detection and tracking of malicious activity directed toward our website. The data logs are deleted every 30-days and we will only save them if they are part of an investigation. There is no way to opt-out of this data collection.

Aggregated data from server logs that don’t identify any individual may be created to learn how users are arriving to and using our site. Aggregated data may be kept indefinitely. This may influence future marketing decisions we make.

3) Information Gathered by Other–Party Software on Our Site

The following services are data processors for Tele Vue because they collect and process data for us. These services are implemented by placing JavaScript code provided by them on our website pages. This code can create “first-party” cookies (and perhaps entries in localStorage, and sessionStorage) on your device. First party cookies are stored on your device under the televue.com domain name. They are part of the Tele Vue site but have their own privacy policies. Tele Vue has no control over third party policies and is not responsible for their privacy practices.

By default, it is not possible for one website to access the first-party cookies, localStorage or sessionStorage stored by another website, however if two websites make requests to the same third-party web domain, then that third party can store a cookie on the one website and access it on the other (these are known as “third party cookies”). Third party cookies that contain unique values can potentially be used to track you between websites that make requests to the third party.

a) AddThis Service

This website uses AddThis, a third-party content sharing platform provided by Oracle America, Inc. ("Oracle") located at 500 Oracle Parkway, Redwood Shores, CA 94065. The AddThis service appears on our website pages as a series of icons representing various social media platforms (such as, but not limited to Facebook, Baidu, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, and LinkedIn) as well as printer and email options. Site visitors use these icons to share the content of the website pages. Tele Vue uses the AddThis service to acquire aggregate data on the popularity of blog posts, web pages, and content sharing tool usage.

By using the AddThis services you consent to share data with Oracle. AddThis has their own terms of service explaining how they use this data: http://www.addthis.com/privacy/terms-of-service.

AddThis may place cookies on your device and collect non-personally identifiable information from many of the websites in which AddThis is enabled, and use that information to deliver targeted advertising and personalized content on those websites as well as other websites you may visit.

Social media services accessed through Addthis may gather from you an email address, username, password, internet protocol (IP) address, and geographic location for account registration and sign-in purposes. Any personal information collected by AddThis or the social media services will not be stored or transmitted by Tele Vue. Tele Vue has no control over or access to specific login information or any other sensitive personal information provide through these third-party services.

To opt-out from allowing AddThis to collect your information, please visit their Targeted Opt-Out page: http://www.addthis.com/privacy/opt-out. You can also avoid AddThis from collecting information by not clicking on any of their icons.

Google Analytics builds reports on visitor behavior that TeleVue can view and download. No personally identifiable information is included in these reports. The reports are used to detect aggregate patterns of behavior and user demographics. Tele Vue can view this aggregate data to learn where our customers are located and what pages on the website are popular. This can drive future marketing actions on our part. Tapping /clicking on the embedded video to play it on the YouTube (or other) website removes the privacy-enhanced mode and re-introduces the behavior tracking cookies to your device.

4) More Resources for Opting Out of Customized Internet Advertising

Some of the ads you receive on Web pages are customized based on predictions about your interests generated from your visits to different Websites in this browser and on other devices you may use. This type of ad customization is sometimes called "online behavioral" or "interest-based" advertising. The Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) is an independent non-profit organization led by leading advertising and marketing trade associations that establishes and enforces responsible privacy practices across industry. DAA maintains a website to allow users to control the collection and use of this data by companies that participate in the DAA. Please visit DAA’s WebChoices Tool ( http://www.aboutads.info/choices/) to opt out from customized advertising from the various member companies. (It is important to remember that not all companies are a member of DAA).
