#televue40: Deep Space Objects

At the beginning of 2017, in honor of Tele Vue’s 40th year, we asked you to tag your social media images taken with or taken of Tele Vue equipment with the hashtag #televue40. You did so and there are too many images to highlight them all, but we’ll bring you a few at a time though these blog posts.

This installment features gorgeous images of Deep-Sky Objects (DSOs) taken with Tele Vue hardware. Some of the images are in Hydrogen-alpha (b&w) and others full-color.  Exposure times range from hours (one night’s work) to over a day (several nights work)!

Evolution of Comet Holmes’ 2007 Apparition

It was ten years ago that comet Comet Holmes (17P/Holmes) livened up the fall and winter skies with a sudden outburst that brightened it from mag. 17 to above naked-eye mag. 2.8 on October 23/24, 2007. Its coma subsequently expanded to a diameter greater than that of the sun! Well placed in Perseus for northern hemisphere observers, it became an instant imaging target for amateur astronomers. From a small town in Germany, two hours drive away from the Alps, Panagiotis Xipteras images the sky with his Tele Vue-NP127is. We noticed his exquisite images on social media and asked him why he choose the NP127is for his imaging scope. He tells us below.
